I have experienced the same with Songbird 1.2.0 in Ubuntu 9.04 with compiz
enabled.
However after disabling compiz (appearance preferences > visual effects > None)
the
window is restored in the current workspace.

Linux Mint 7 (Ubuntu 9.04), Firefox 3.5.1, compiz enabled.
Compiz seems to be what causes the problem.

The workaround is to disable compiz as mentioned above, or disable extra
workspaces
and have only one.

Same with ThunderBird 2.0.0.22 on Ubuntu 9.04 with enabled Compiz and multiply
workspaces. On restore every time program is moved to closest-next workspace.

I've recently enabled three virtual desktops and now Thunderbird restores to
the very
bottom-left of the desktop, and ignores the Place Windows settings I have in
place.
If I disable the Place Windows compiz plugin, it still restores to that
location.

When I use 2 workspaces and Compiz is enabled:
1. Clicking on tray icon opens Thunderbird on the right (not current) workspace
BUT sometimes
2. Clicking on tray icon opens Thunderbird on the left (current) workspace but
instantly switches to the right workspace. So I have to manually switch to the
left
workspace.
When I use 1 workspace and Compiz is enabled:
Clicking on tray icon opens Thunderbird and directly moves it out of the
workspace
(to the right). I have to do a right click in the panel and select move to get
thunderbird back to the workspace.
Problems occurs only when Compiz is active.

I want to emphasize that problems occurs when only 1 (!) workspace is active.

On my laptop firetray works as expected (Compiz enabled and 2 workspaces). New
to me
is that firetray opens thunderbird right-aligned on current workspace. Any idea
where
the problem is? Additional information needed?

When clicking on tray icon to restore the thunderbird window it opens in
the next workspace and not the current I'm working in. sometime it just takes
me to
the next workspace, and doen not restore TB at all, meaning I have to right
click and
exit, the restart TB to see it at all.
Firetray 0.2.3, Thunderbird 3.5.1, Ubuntu 9.04, compiz.

Same problem here with firetray 0.2.3
Firefox 3.0.12
Thunderbird 2.0.0.22
Ubuntu 9.04
Compiz 0.8.2 (enabled)
I reverted to firetray 0.1.11, everything works fine there...

Was also experiencing the same problem using Firefox 3.0.12, Thunderbird
2.0.0.22,
Ubuntu 9.04 and Compiz 0.8.2. Took biochemie69's suggestion and reverted to
0.1.11
and confirm the issue is gone.

Versions 0.2.3 and 0.2.5-dev RANDOMLY show this and some other odd behavior in
FF
3.5.* and 3.6 (in Debian Squeeze).
Downgrading to FireTray 0.1.11 fixed the problem for me.

@ tsujan200 and sebastock
Thunderbird 3.0.3 with Firetray seems to have completely solved theproblem in my
case, running compiz on Debian Lenny. Your mileage may vary. I really like
being
able to single click to get Thunderbird to restore, that was an annoying
feature as
well that appears (to me) to be fixed now. Good luck everyone and thanks for
the
hints.

The problem should be fixed in version 0.2.9-dev. In the download area you can
find a development release to test the latest changes.
