Allow user to configure what is counted in the message count #63

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Allow the user to configure what email accounts, and more importantly,
which newsgroups to monitor for new messages. As it is I rarely have have a
0 count due to the fact that Firetray counts all new messages from the
various newsgroups I read. I don't want to have newsgroup messages included
in the count of unread messages.

It would also be useful if one option would be to count only new messages,
rather
than all unread messages.

I think that unread message counting should be done on a per-folder basics, and
a
user should be provided with an ability to choose, which folders to include in
calculations. Another thing to consider is to display separate counters for
separate
accounts. Third thing is indication method: those, who've been using The Bat! on
windows like it much for it's ability to indicate new mail availability using
animated tray icon (i.e., when there is no new messages - a bat on the icon is
"sleeping", but when new messages arrive, it wakes up and starts to flip it's
wings).
I'm not sure that animated icon is a must, but at least it would be good to
display
different icon in case there's new mail available (let's say, standard
Thunderbird
icon when there's no new mail, and an Icon with an star overlaid on the standard
Thunderbird icon when there's new mail).

I think you should be able to configure which email accounts/folders and/or news
accounts/newsgroups are important and when they get new messages the tray icon
should
change images. Hovering over the tray icon (or say left clicking it) could open
a
tooltip that lists all important accounts/folders/groups with new messages.
