Can anyone help with this? Or had anyone seen this same behavior? It’s very frustrating and is happening consistently with every email I create using foundation.
Hey! I think it's your client's issue. When I copy your code and send it to myself I just see the preheader correctly displayer - no line break.
Send your email to a friend to test it out or open it on another device if you have one.
Thanks for the reply. Sent it to my wife who also has an iPhone, and it’s the same problem.
Is that screenshot you took from an iPhone?
I’m not understanding how it could be my client. It’s just the standard mail app on iPhone and it doesn’t happen to any other email except the ones generated from foundation.
Very very confused...
It might be the app you are using to send out the email. I have checked on both Mail App, Airmail App, and INBOX App. Both preview the preheader correctly.
I think you're right. I sent the same email using Mandrill, and it looks fine. Doesn't suprise me. I'm using BigCommerce, and there always seems to be some weird snag like this anytime I need to do a slightly advanced customization. Thanks for your help, I'll keep investigating.
I can actually see the problem if I inspect the email in Gmail. There is a line break. I guess iOS Mail is the only client that displays that character for some reason:
So for some unknown reason BigCommerce is adding line breaks in these abritraty places even though they aren't actually present in the mail template being uploaded to them. So strange, and if I try to explain this to them they will probably just blame it on customizations and say there is nothing they can do.
It's an issue with how BigCommerce encodes there emails. They are adding lines breaks to limit line length, but not properly using 'quoted-printable' encoding to ensure continuous lines remain continuous. Frustrating, but at least there is an explanation. I sent them an explanation so we'll see if it ever gets fixed.
Check out the screenshot below. This is from the latest iOS Mail app on an iPhone 6s:
Every email I generate using foundation cli consistently has this strange line break in the preview text on iPhone. The screenshot has the following code as the
preheader
, which is unchanged from what foundation cli generates by default:However, this occurs even if the
.preheader
tag is empty. It just uses text from the beginning of the email, but there is still line break. For example, if I empty the.preheader
, the first text in the message is an<h1>
tag that says "Thanks For Your Order!". In this case, the preview text appears as:So I don't think the issue is specific to the
.preheader
tag. It seems like there is some sort of global css or something causing this issue. I do not see the same problem in other emails I receive from other services in the Mail app. It's only the messages I generate using foundation.Does anyone know what is causing this?
Here is the full HTML of the email in case it's helpful:
