No it will never be updated for the mini5.

Hmm, why ? Ipad mini is so much different than the other apple products?

Checkra1n uses the checkm8 exploit (which is a bootrom exploit) this means it exploits the hardware of the device. devices with the A12 chip and later do not have vulnerable hardware to this exploit.
