Well I don't have a GPU passed through since I don't have even an dedicated gpu

I might try it, though it might be an issue from my hardware due to my CPU not supporting VT-d technology

from USB 3

for my particular use case, switching from qxl
video mode to the default std
allows me to interact with the vm (mojave), but am unable to "auto" grab the mouse on hover unfortunately.
In my case I was using win7 ultimate as the vm, I changed the tablet type from VirtIO to EvTouch USB Graphics Tablet, found the answer at stackoverflow

Hi there, whenever i try to move around my mouse being captured in the virt-manager macOS window, the pointer doesn't want to work at all... Perhaps should i boot this in QEMU first for the main installation?
