Profile master and slaves #202

We want to know how much time the master and slaves spend for sending and receiving data, and for actually performing work.

In order to find this out, we should:

[ ] add light-weight profiling, instrumenting the send and receive, as well as the actual work part of the master and slaves.
[ ] use the benchmarks to make sure the profiling is lightweight enough not to alter the performance.
