Runcam Wasp half screen #269

Hello, friends! First of all, I want to thank you for your efforts in the field of wtfos. Thanks to your "butter" I saved my glasses and downgraded the firmware version. The problem is different. I have Rucam Wasp. Before rooting and installing wtfos, I checked the video link - everything is ok. I passed airunit V01.00.06 (apparently I was inattentively reading the instructions) and found that the upper half of the image is stretched and flattened, and the lower half is filled with pink moire. I stayed up all night, read Discord and realized that firmware 06 most likely does not support the Wasp camera. After that, I flashed the airunit to firmware V01.00.0608. This gave the desired result. The Wasp camera works in a 4x3 aspect ratio. It's a little uncomfortable, but I quickly got used to it. And today I have the same problem again, half of the screen, as before with firmware 06, is stretched to the full width and half (as if 16 x 4.5) instead of 4x3. I analyzed what my actions could lead to a malfunction, but it is unlikely that any of this was the cause. Updated the firmware on TBS, made minor changes to BF (RSSI, linear gas and some other little things). I suspect that the camera itself is working fine (this can be seen from the whole picture with a distorted aspect ratio), apparently something is forcing the camera from 4x3 to work in 16x9, and this leads to such a problem. I hope for your help, because I want to be an absolutely confident user who knows that after turning on the power, I put on my glasses and fly, and do not wait for the unexpected. I am ready to become your hands and eyes to resolve this issue. On Monday, I will be able to return the glasses and the air unit to factory condition and see how it will work. But maybe you already have a super solution right now?)

I saw that a similar topic has already been discussed here, but the initiator of the question has disappeared somewhere

I forgot to add that OSD shows 4x3, without distortion, fonts are loaded, and everything is displayed beautifully. Damn, what's wrong with Wasp?

so it changed from one day to the next without you doing anything obvious? I would doble check all the wires - sounds to me as if things were not plugged in properly.

I would also think about connecting connectors, but for some reason I'm sure that the problem is the software part, and it's not necessarily wtf. I'll write anyway when I've done the experiments

Hi! That's what information I have after the experiments. On the website of the manufacturer Runcam on the support page there is an article describing a feature of the WASP camera on firmware V01.00.0606, which really creates a problem with half the screen. Everything is solved by updating to firmware V01.00.0608. You can read it here. My airunit already had firmware V01.00.0608. The reason why my problem arose, peculiar to the firmware V01.00.0606, is not known to me. Nevertheless, taking advantage of the saving Butter, updating V01.00.0608 to V01.00.0608, getting root, and installing WTFOS and packages, proper performance returned. The image in glasses in 4x3 format, color and modern OSD. My advice to those who have a split screen, do not worry, update the software on airunite, it will take a little time. As for the reasons, I don't have an answer, but if I know why what's the matter, I'll definitely let you know! Thank you for supporting me all this time!

Alright, that is great info, just to recap:

  1. Downgrade via butter
  2. Root (and remove rollback protection)
  3. "Remove" root update back to 0608
  4. Root again

Is this about what you did? If so, I'd add that to the Wiki for future users. Thank you for debugging and providing a solution.

Alright, that is great info, just to recap:

Perhaps this is not quite true. When I encountered the problem, my airunit already had firmware 0608, root and wtfOS. And everything worked as it should. Then there was a crash and I got half the screen.

What I did: updated firmware 0608 to 0608. Butter - in my opinion, a very convenient and fast solution that leads you to the goal. I could have used DJI's assistant, but I chose Butter. After I reinstalled the firmware, the image returned and became normal. After that, I decided to return wtfOS. I had to root the airunit again, then install wtfOS and install the packages. After that, the correct OSD was added. I think the sequence may be different, but this worked for me.

Thank you also for the prompt dialogue!

OK, interesting. So basically re-doing the process fixed the issue on your end. That's very interesting. I think I will link this thread from the Wiki and we see if we can distill some pattern from this if more people run into this issue. I think there was at least one other person with this - or a very similar - issue.
