Create better player models #21

TOL still uses the CAT model from ROTC: Ethernet. And with TOL's ethernet mode being class based, new models that uniquely identify each class are needed.

Requirements: Experience with Blender or willingness to learn it.

A modular set might make sense to cover the classes more easily.

I think the original animations could still be used, but getting them from the in-editor collada format into Blender might prove a bit problematic as the collada importer from Blender sucks.

glasz has some drafts on the way: http://albhertglasz.deviantart.com/art/Character01svg-490237919?ga_submit_new=10%253A1414088986

I would very much like to see a gender neutral model.

poVoq commented 10 years ago

A sufficiently abstract or sort of robotic model would be gender neutral, no?

The concept you linked seems too round (I would like to see the "polygon" style be kept somehow) and generic to be honest.

I was thinking of something more robotic / abstract avatar like. Maybe a bit like those flying anime mechas: http://wallpaperswa.com/thumbnails/detail/20130922/robots%20mecha%20pixiv%20swords%20white%20background_wallpaperswa.com_67.jpg ?

Cool could be also (as a general style for levels and characters) to revisit that Egyptian mythology combined with futuristic armor style found in some of the older Unreal Tournament titles, and then "remixing" that as a virtual reality Tron see-through astetic. Levels would them be with virtual pyramids, columns, sphinxes etc. Hmm ok, maybe a bit too specific :)
