What's the problem you want solved?

A first-time scuttlebutt user shows up to a bunch of empty screens with no clues about what to do next.

Is there a solution you'd like to recommend?

Guide them to create a user profile
Guide them to add a pub invite or room invite
Guide them to wait for downloading, then to go see the people in that pub or room

Are we sure this is MVP? Should this be part of milestone 2?

I usually break features down into:

Game Changer - Differentiator. This feature sets us apart from other options.
Show Stopper - Tablestakes. If we don't have this feature, it's an issue. But nobody loves us just because we have this.
Nicety - Nice for current users but won't attract any new users.

Often times, for an MVP only the first two matter; and in this case, if the real goal is to take over where Patchwork left off; I would argue that just shipping "Show Stoppers" is enough for "BareBones" as we're replacing a tool?

I'm happy with that heuristic, if you have time and want to look through the rest of the milestone I wonder whether there are others that aren't show stoppers.

I just moved this to milestone 2: usable as it isn't absolutely core functionality.
