For point 2, can you provide an example with screenshots or a file were that happened? Because I'm getting a mesh of the same scale as the original, face by face. Working on 1 atm, but I can't promise I'll do it feature complete myself, not soon at least.
I bet you have your original object scaled at object level, apply the scale to it (Ctrl+A > Scale) to get the same dimensions on the mesh and its UV replicate. Multi-Object UV editing support is almost feature complete now, stay tuned for a new release tomorrow. Closing due to inactivity, you can reopen this if your issue (point 2) wasn't solved.
