What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run gnome-mplayer
2. Open a video file
3. Press A to adjust proportions of the displayed video to e.g. 16:10

What is the expected output?
Video in 16:10 proportions displayed on the screen.

What do you see instead?
Screen flickers a bit when pressing the A key, but the image does not change.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
GNOME-mplayer v0.9.8
MPlayer SVN-r29776-4.4.1

on Arch Linux

Please provide any additional information below.

The grey square issues is a duplicate of #297 (window resize issue with gtk
2.18)

As for the Aspect not changing when you hit the A key, it cycles thru the
choices on
the aspect menu... Default, 16:9, 16:10, 4:3 and follow window. So it is
possible
that is changed slightly and you didn't notice it.
