When playing in full screen mode stopped the screensaver.

Might want to try building your own as I don't know what version of
gnome-power-manager that package is compiled against. Also, SVN might give you 
better
results.

SVN has been patched to allow for selecting between gnome-power-manager and X 
Screen
Saver control, option is under Edit -> Preferences Interface
