In archlinux "Exec = gnome-mplayer %U" to replace "Exec = gnome-mplayer
%F". They write that: %U - doesn't handle spaces from path and file name well.

%U is perfectly valid for gnome-mplayer since it is designed to handle URIs when
compiled with GIO support.

If you are asking about this bug: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/8550  that is
referring to gmplayer which is not gnome-mplayer.
