Google Gadget Editor not saving or opening files #642

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Description of the bug/feature. For aliases or deletion requests, please
see the Issue Tracking wiki page for the proper place to make the request.
==================================

When I try to use the Google Gadget Editor to get open one of my existing
gadgets, I get a list that shows files named "charset=UTF-8" and "text/xml"
(multiple). I cannot access my existing google gadgets (hosted on Google
Code) through the editor. I have tried from multiple computers (all running
windows) and multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox and IE). I cannot open any
of the files listed. When I create a new file and save it, there is one
more entry on the list "charset=UTF-8" but I cannot open that file (it says
it is not valid XML).

This error makes it impossible for me to access my gadgets (although I may
try to do so through SVN later today).

PLEASE FILL OUT THE FOLLOWING FOR A BUG REPORT ONLY (delete everything
below this line for a feature, alias, or deletion request):

What steps will reproduce the problem?
======================================
1. Go GGE using my account.
2. Attempt to open a file from the list
3. Also try saving a new file

What is the expected output?
============================
The expected output is a list of my gadgets

What is the actual output?
==========================
See screenshot

Which browsers have you experienced this on?
============================================
IE, Chrome, Firefox
Which operating systems have you experienced this on?
=====================================================

We're working on correcting this issue. In the interim, you should be able to
open
the gadgets by URL, using the "File -> Open By URL" menu option.

The issue seems to be back. The code editor is empty when trying to open a file.

It doesn't work for me either. "File save unsuccessful" and cant publish
because it cant be validated. It says gadget loaded successfully when I first
navigate to the page. very frustrating for my yesterday! I dont get the
"charset" stuff

The Google gadget editor and most links along those same lines go back to the
main igoogle home page. Sure would like that Editor to start working soon :\
What's going on??

This issue just happened again on Oct 28, 2010. Why does this regression keep
on happening?

Borked again. In both chrome and firefox. Every time I return to check up on
GGE there is always something critically wrong with it.

File delete unsuccessful
File save unsuccessful

Also pointing at an xml on my own site and submitting it here
http://www.google.com/ig/submit gave me undefined error but at least it tells
me it has already been submitted if I try again.

but so far I followed all instruction and still same error. Any advice would be

Workaround for issue opening gadgets...if you're interested.

Copy your gadget code into the empty GGE.
Save and Save As (and Rename) work just fine then.

I didn't overwrite my prior gadget with Save As because I was worried something
might go wrong (and I only use it in one place). But I ended up with a newly
saved Gadget that had my code updates, and I can use it just fine.

I have a similar issue. I built a code and when I accessed my website it wasn't
there. When I logged into GGE I didn't have the option to save or new or open
the one's I did before. I was able to go into my history and access the .xml
urls but still can't host. Please help I need to send my website to employers
ASAP.

Chrome 19.0.1084.46 m
Windows 7 64bit
Website using Google sites
In the attached file you can see what's there now instead of buttons that I
created to navigate website.

Thanks,
Rich

I have been using http://www.google.com/ig/ifr?url=gge.xml

I use the same GGE link as in comment #23 and my gadgets are working just fine
right now.

I've read elsewhere of folks hosting their gadgets on their own site (rather
than gstatic). I think this is a great idea, and I will be trying it soon.
Then you can just upload the new .xml file to your site, and there is no
dependency on GGE (which as we all know is occasionally flakey). More control
sounds like a wonderful long-term solution!
