Income and Expense Ledger mapping for Item Groups and Item #39355

As you are aware, sometimes companies book income and expenses from different item groups or items in different ledgers based on their reporting requirements. In ERPNext, we have only one global mapping for income(Sales) and expense(Cost of Goods Sold), and consequently, user has to manually change income and expense ledger while doing transactions, which in fact leads to control lapses. This issue can be overcome by bringing income and expense mapping options at item group level and item level as a non mandatory process. In this case, during transaction, for accounting purpose, mapping at item level should be given preference followed by item group mapping and global mapping. Current option of changing ledgers during transactions should be controlled on the basis of configuration to define whether changing of ledgers should be allowed or not. This process will bring in flexibility in management reporting with proper control of competent persons. Moreover, budgetary controls can be effectively implemented. Currently, budgeting can be circumvented by changing ledgers. It can be effectively utilized in case of material issue, especially when materials are issued for consumption in projects.
