Timelogging with pre-selected projects/tasks/activities #4001

We are currently implementing ERPNext for our company, and have had push and pull thoughts about the daily use. In past experience, I have always found time cards to be the standard, and intuitively easiest method of entering times at the end of the day. Understandably though, doing so would negate some functions like Start time and End time, however, it looks like it calcualates a sum at the end process anyhow.

The format I am reffering to is as follows.

I wasn't involved with ERPNext in the past, but upon reading, it sounds as if the system has moved away from something like this in the past.

Thanks for sharing the screenshot. Looks like a good way to enter weekly data.

This can be done via a custom screen. Would your company be willing to sponsor development?

superlack commented 9 years ago

Certainly a possibility It seems like the standard time entry environment for others that we have tested. Flexibility has always been the most attractive aspect about your system, and its evident even in time logs too. However speaking from an employee in the past, and demonstrating the abilities to a less-than-computer-literate person, it is a hurdle to for them to enter correct data consistently throughout the week

Having not fully adopted, I can't commit completely yet, so I don't want to make any false promises. I am certainly looking into sponsoring development for dispatching/project/calendar tie in in the future if that were possible. It would cover pretty much everything I could imagine.

Thank you for the reply, I am always impressed with the responses

Superlack, have your users tried entering time via the calendar? /desk#Calendar/Time Log You can click-drag the time slot that was worked. This method of entering time is much faster and easier than manually filling in the data. I'd argue it's even easier than what you showed in your screenshot, because people can easily relate to when they were working on something in a day, but not to exactly how much time they spent on that work until they do the math.

@kodybaker Thanks for sharing this. Maybe it should be in the manual :)

Looks to me as the only difference is that dragging a time slot is used in place of enter start/end times, or entering an hour quantity with the keyboard. Also, drag functions do not function as intended on web browsers or in-app on the iPhone.

This method does still require manual entry of each activity/project/task, and will not simultaneously show times entered under different details (useful when breaking down daily hours cumulatively)

Edit: It is absolutely an impressive function that I was not aware of though

Since timesheets have undergone a lot of changes to be what they are in version 8, closing this for now. If there are any suggestions for the latest version, kindly post on discuss
