The dev board with the lowest battery consumptions seems to be FireBeetle ESP32. It also has comes with a jst connector to attach bettieries. It also has a good deep sleep mode. But it is more expensive and not easy to get in Germany. :-(

LiPo4 batteries seems to be the perfect fit for such boards. They are also cheap. But it is really hard to find them with a security feature. This prevents high currents on a short circuit. Which can not only destroy your board but also can be a real security problem. Here you could by them for 14E https://www.eremit.de/c/lifepo4-akkus2. Which is still expensive and more than we actually need.

This guy writes about using a CR123 battery with success. https://rntlab.com/question/is-it-possible-to-power-the-esp32-directly-with-a-cr123-battery/ I will give it a try
