Fix Twitch #537

Open freaktechnik opened 4 years ago

freaktechnik commented 4 years ago

Yay, thanks Twitch. That's all I'll write here. Oh, and it'll probably be a while until I get that fixed. It also makes it so you can no longer use the extension without a Twitch account. Neat, right?

BubiBalboa commented 4 years ago

So, what's the workaround with a Twitch account? I don't see the option to enter my credentials.

freaktechnik commented 4 years ago

The workaround that lets you use a Twitch account will require an extension update.

BubiBalboa commented 4 years ago

Ah, okay. Thanks for clearing that up.

For anyone coming across this now that the 24h outage window is over: I expect Twitch updates to be broken completely starting May 11th. I don't know what time zone, whatever Twitch feels like is the May 11th they want to do.

I'll carry this over from the discourse support thread:

Ahh, I see why it wasn't working now. I was getting really confused until I finally went and looked at the discourse thread adn here.

Twitch is really annoying since it requires you to have a Twitch window open to get notifications.. and Twitch is one of the heaviest, most awfully CPU intensive overheads to leave idle, even on the main or a light page. Only Youtube is comparable.

Just tossing a hat in that this is a great extension and I hope to see this fixed, even if it requires the workaround! Thanks for it in general, it worked extremely well till then.

It made me sad to read this. Since I use your extension everyday, I figured out a dirty way to temporarily fix it and made a Step-by-Step Manual.

I understand now, why it is not easy to adapt to Twitch's changes. Thank you for providing and maintaining such an excellent extension!

At the end Twitch will kill all third-party tools/bots/addons.

Heard today most of the bot features like your watched hours, collect coins etc will not work anymore because the remove the APIs or change the access to them. It really sucks hard!

The new design is like painting over a wall with mold, you can't see the mold anymore but the mold is still there and the problem is still there.
