Turns out iPad screens make for great small format retro gaming monitors. They're 4:3, extremely responsive, have great color, and they can be had for exceptionally cheap. For ~$60, you can get one from AliExpress, which is well documented here. I can say anecdotally they work great to render retro content, especially when any kind of video filtering or effects are in play.
Unfortunately, when I connect the Analogue Dock to these monitors, regardless of whether I set the monitor to 4:3 or 16:9, it plays in a very squashed aspect ratio, making it comparatively unplayable.
For instance, here's the Dock at 1080p showing the Tetris screen booted from cartridge:
And here's MiSTer showing the Tetris screen at 2048x1536:
Exact palette or other fine details aside, my request is to be able to have the Dock display on this or other 4:3 monitors at a similar aspect ratio as the MiSTer because, well, it's infinitely more playable and feels more natural.
I am (clearly) not extremely technical when it comes to this stuff, so I'd also appreciate any explanation why this isn't possible. Thanks for your consideration.
