So far, we've talked about perhaps building some sort of thermometer / weather station. What do you guys think? anymore ideas?

fredericmarchand commented 9 years ago

Just so you guys know, I bought: 2x http://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/0/497-13898-ND 1x http://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/0/296-37267-ND 1x https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11812 2x https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10414

Since we need 3 devices might as well buy two of the first one listed. Also it will probably make assignment/lab 1 easier if you use the same device to communicate.

iamtheib commented 9 years ago

I was thinking, since we're four in the group won't it be nicer to use 4 devices? That way, each member can work on one device.

Having too many devices will make this project more complicated. We may not even know what to do with an extra one. For example, if we decide to do the thermometer thing, I'm not even sure why we would even need 3.

Embedded systems don't work that way, we can't each write code for a device and then put it together. This course will be highly concentrated on communication between devices, therefore if you write code on one device you will most likely have to write code for another one to handle requests or what not. That is why I purchased everything. I want to be able to simulate the whole environment on my own.

Also, the prof sent an email saying to buy two of the zigbee with the antenna (the blue one), I just ordered an extra one.

Sidenote: I hate how disorganized this prof is...

iamtheib commented 9 years ago

Okay.... I think I gave an idea of what it's about. Thank you.

Yeah.... I saw the email literally after getting the confirmation for buying all the other ones... Had to buy the extra zigbee separately too.

Fun fact: The links I put above are for Digikey Canada. Which means you will receive your equipment much faster, I just received mine this morning!

The prof linked to Digikey USA, so those people will wait longer and get nailed with handling fees.

Another thing, the board are powered with USB cords and they don't come with them in the package. Might need to buy some if you don't already own some. I'll post a link here to the right one to get.

Awesome, thanks for sorting that stuff out! correct me if im wrong, but is it not this http://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/0/296-37267-ND device that we need two of? I was under the impression that this one http://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/0/497-13898-ND is the wireless device that we only need 1 of

fredericmarchand commented 9 years ago

No problem! We need two of the green device and two of the blue zigbee. Thats what I have listed above.

iamtheib commented 9 years ago

I know this is kind of off topic but do we have a tutorial tomorrow?

The prof said yes we do, but I doubt it will be productive. I'll bring my hardware even though it wont be necessary.

iamtheib commented 9 years ago

Okay. I just saw mine after getting home just now. I'm still waiting for the zigbee and the other one from sparkly.

Thank you very much for your help. See you tomorrow.

Yeah, the zigbee hardware is going to take longer because it is coming from the United States. No problem!
