If you wish I can make it read-write and update the license to MIT or BSD 2-clause; it was a horrible hack in a hurry by someone (me) who learned C programming just as K&R was transitioning to ANSI and got used to using only Standard C by default. Oh, and don't use realloc (it did nasty things under some compilers of the time).
I don't have any of these devices any more so I can't really test it.
