I'm not much of a writer these days, but I'd be interested in something like this existing. I think it'd send a nice signal to the academics that we speak their language. Smart.
Related idea, probably part 1 of this paper: propose a standard vocabulary and methodology for reporting coverage of legal corpora. This would also help remove some of the FUD around coverage by different commercial providers.
Fairly early on in the Stanford IP Litigation Clearinghouse (which later became Lex Machina), the project published a one-pager on what data it was collecting: Intellectual Property Litigation Clearinghouse: Data Overview (2007).
CL & FLP have much more data now than the IPLC had at that point. I think it would be great if we could publish a similar short paper, aimed at scholars, to give them an overview of what's available.
