using thread instead of timer #23

i would like to run this library on pi2 what's your idea about using thread instead of timer

I have no capability to add this support at this point in time.

I am, however, willing to review, test and accept pull requests for platform support, much as the last maintainer was willing to do so when I added ESP8266 support.
