What are the chances of this being patched by Apple? I ask because this is something that would need to be reliable for me to use. I currently am using ogv.js but if I can use the native player I can push 720p+ video quality..

Apple actually included this behavior in iOS 10, so they are in favor of it, not against it. 👍
