Integration of additional NER engine (Entityclassifier.eu) #16

Open m1ci opened 9 years ago

Integrate Entityclassifier.eu (supports English, German, Dutch) Important: can be used for non-commercial purposes only!!!

jnehring commented 9 years ago

I ask myself it is really useful to implement an NER engine that cannot be used for commercial purposes. Maybe it is out of scope in the FREME project. Also we already have two other NER engines.

Does entityclassifier.eu provide a benefit over FREME NER or DBPedia Spotlight?

m1ci commented 9 years ago

well, it can be used for commercial purposes but the BC should pay for some of the underlying components. Note that, the Tilde's terminology system can't be used for commercial purposes too ;) Also, I think DBpedia Spotlight is using components which should not be used in commercial purposes, but I think this is nowhere explicitly written and also not visible to the DBpedia spotlight clients.

Does entityclassifier.eu provide a benefit over FREME NER or DBPedia Spotlight?

In some aspects yes, in some not. E.g. it performs more advance classification. The spotting and linking is performed different too.

Ok I thought we might be able to close this issue quickly but I was wrong. We can continue the discussion when we specify FREME 0.5.

@jnehring "I ask myself it is really useful to implement an NER engine that cannot be used for commercial purposes" - fully support if you mean the engine could be used for commercial purposes! Exploitation agreement is for this.
