Frictionless Standards (v2). Announcement #854

Closed roll closed 3 months ago

Dear all,

As many of you know, the Open Knowledge Foundation, with the support of NLnet, is starting Frictionless Standards (v2) work. It’s a long-awaited update of the Data Package family specifications focused on non-breaking changes and general standard improvements (i.e. website, technical languages). Please read the announcement in more detail here - https://frictionlessdata.io/blog/2023/11/15/frictionless-specs-update

While the Open Knowledge Foundation is responsible for general project maintenance for introducing changes to the specifications itself (e.g. Data Package or Table Schema) we’re gathering a new governing body called the Data Package Working Group. Starting with this update and going forward, we are looking to establish a collaborative and diverse approach to the specifications governance. If you’re interested in joining, please contact us (e.g. comment on #853 or message us in Slack)! Also, please join our next community call if you can - https://forms.gle/786jFNBJ2ViA11T59.

For total transparency, we’re pinging all the contributors to the Frictionless Standards in this issue. We promise that it’s the only “unwanted” email you receive and apologize in advance for it. Once the working group is formed, we will be updating the project state on a weekly basis in this issue - https://github.com/frictionlessdata/specs/issues/853 - pinging only Working Group members, and you will be able to subscribe or unsubscribe from notifications.

The issue is locked just in case many people want to say hi and it will spam the rest =) Please use #853 for comments or Slack, or other channels.
