This is sort of ugly and presentational. I wonder if we couldn't come up with something more semantic, like "name redacted" or "unknown friend", or "unknown recipient", and then use CSS or post-processing to turn it into _________ for books. That would leave open some interesting possibilities for things like a possible voice dream (Peter) target, where we could insert something intelligible instead of hearing group of underscores.
Not a super high priority, but probably worth thinking about down the line.
