See the forum post at http://fritzing.org/discourse/bugs/918263709 for user reports of the bug. It seems that it is exclusive to Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), maybe even 10.5.2. Also, it is exclusive to Fritzing 0005.

The current workaround is to change the following settings in /Applications/fritzing-0005/Fritzing.app/Contents/MacOS/Fritzing.ini: remove -XstartOnFirstThread add -Djava.awt.headless=true

Sun's information about the headless switch: http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2SE/Desktop/headless We have to investigate this further, and find out the actual cause. Zach, have you upgraded to Leopard yet?

Some more log information from a user. Interestingly, opening an example works, so it seems to be specific to the "New Sketch" action.

Dang. I'm still running Tiger, but maybe it's time to upgrade. In the meantime, I'll see if I can find a test computer.

Closed because it only applies to the old and obsolete Eclipse-based Fritzing version.
