This is because in homebrew land, when placing parts through the top of the board, it's hard to solder on top, because the part bodies cover what you're trying to solder.

I wouldn't say so. You can also produce double-sided homebrew. If you wanna have single-sided autorouting, you should change the PCB to single-sided.

das Problem war/ist folgendes: Bei selbstgemachten PCBs sind keine Vias vorhanden. Wenn der Autorouter zb ein Elko routet und dies an der Oberseite anschließt, dann kann man dieses nicht mehr anlöten. Gleiches gilt für ICs und einige andere Bauteile, abhängig von der Bauform. Um also Frustration bei den Nutzern zu ersparen würde ich die Einstellung so belassen. Man könnte das ganze noch aufschlüsseln und bestimmte Bauteile, bei denen es möglich ist diese Funktion erlauben.
