If a drop cap is being used, and the letter used for the drop cap is an entire syllable of a longer word (i.e., A in Ave but not if A is the entire word) then a hyphen should be drawn below the neume for that syllable. (Ave Regina Caelorum is a good example of what I mean, or any Agnus Dei)
