Cool, downloaded the latest (1.4) from here and it worked perfectly. I got my
computer connected and using my Samsung Galaxy S2's data connection for
internet access.

Works for Gingerbread on my Galaxy S2 but when I try with Ice Cream Sandwich I
get the unsupported kernel error.

It is supposed to only work on kernels that support the RNDIS ethernet gadget,
and (in my limited experience) it seems like the source code for that gadget is
broken in the latest Android kernels.

I was able to get the app to work on my GNex by compiling the kernel with the
CDC Ethernet gadget instead which (I think) is more recent, and does build.
See: http://goo.gl/33M1A

Unfortunately the kernel on that page probably won't work with the Galaxy S2,
so you'd have to basically compile an S2 kernel and add in the CDC Ethernet
gadget.
