Clarification on the project #93

Closed GinoPiazza closed 1 year ago

GinoPiazza commented 2 years ago

This project is great, but is not clear if this is completely legit or if installing this project on Kobo e-reader invalidate the warranty (I bought a Kobo Libra 2 yesterday and would like to not invalidate the warranty after one day). Furthermore what are the e-reader compatible with the project? It would be better also to add some words about this two topics in the readme of the project.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi Gino, thanks for your message. It actually raises an important question. Honestly, I don't know what the consequences of installing this might be, and they might even vary according to the local consumer protection laws. For sure, this mod is not supported in any way by Kobo, so everything ends up being done at your own risk. To be clear, neither I nor the other contributors can take any responsibility. This is also stated in the MIT license that this software uses. See the COPYING file for the license.

In the worst-case scenario, you can reload the original firmware for your kobo and no one will ever know that this mod was installed: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=311227

This mod has been tested on a variety of devices, and as far as I know, all current Kobo readers should support it, but I don't have all the devices, so I cannot guarantee that it will work.

By the way this mod works, any damage to the device is however unlikely.
