Any reason not based on latest upstream development of Anthy just hosted on Debian services? https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianAnthy https://salsa.debian.org/debian/anthy

Interesting. Maybe I can import some patches upon the request. I think Debian can replace the anthy with anthy-unicode.

fujiwarat commented 2 years ago

Note that Anthy is not an original Anthy but Debian Anthy.

Anthy Unicode is another Anthy project forked from Anthy since Anthy is no longer maintained. I (Takao Fujiwara) contacted with Yusuke Tabata-san and we agreed that myself will maintain Anthy Unicode. https://github.com/fujiwarat/anthy-unicode/blob/master/README.en

I looked at the Debian Anthy quickly and seems most patches are not required.

Maybe, it should be called as FSIJ Anthy, not Debian Anthy. https://ja.osdn.net/projects/anthy/lists/archive/dev/2010-June/003794.html

Is FSIJ Anthy not authorized by original developers and another fork?

fujiwarat commented 2 years ago

Thank you for the link. I don't know the relation between the FSIJ Anthy and Debian Anthy from your pasted link and the link seems to explain FSIJ staffs use several repositories including Debian and Debian Anthy is maintained by Debian people.

I think the original Anthy's last update is anthy-9100h from the home page and the authors are noted in AUTHORS file in anthy tarball and README file points sourceforge repo which was moved to ja.osdn.net at present.

Is FSIJ Anthy not authorized by original developers and another fork?

I don't know about it, sorry. All I say is the current official home page would be ja.osdn.net which is no longer maintained and I tried to contact the people in AUTHORS file.

Yes, but not noted in neither OSDN project page nor home page though.

I may have to recognize that Anthy project hosted on Salsa is the another fork, not the new location of Anthy project, and it is right that you created new fork from OSDN original project source code.

Hi, I'm personally trying to merge the Debian and Fedora versions. https://github.com/netsphere-labs/anthy/

The Debian version seems to continue development, even though slowly. https://salsa.debian.org/debian/anthy/-/network/master

I don't know what happened in the past. But I guess the Debian branch is mainstream. fujiwarat-branch differs in many points and is not ready to easily merge. Why don't you throw patches to Debian?

fujiwarat commented 2 years ago

But I guess the Debian branch is mainstream.

What do you mean in the mainstream. See my above explanation. This project is agreed with the original anthy maintainers.

hhorikawa commented 2 years ago

Got! I pointed it out from a technical point of view, as Debian's had been maintained. But you're focusing on the correctness of provenance. OK, but I think everyone becomes happy to be with the single repository, not being improved separately.

I'm just doing it personally, also challenging on the two branches and another one https://github.com/yt76/anthy/.

That's why I renamed anthy to anthy-unicode not to conflict the repositories and he said his repo is a personal repo and no plan to be official at present.

I think the better way is to migrate the Debian patches to anthy-unicode.
