Greek text #46

Closed funderburkjim closed 2 years ago

funderburkjim commented 2 years ago

In the current boesp.xml, Greek text appears in two incomplete forms:

Andhrabharati commented 2 years ago

The greek text has earlier been provided for many (perhaps all) of these instances

A few are still to be done in Vol.3, @funderburkjim

<D>6075. <g></g> <D>7046. (A. 5275) <g></g> <F>6109 <g>ζʹ</g> <F>6481 <g>Δʹ</g> <F>6483 <g>Δʹ</g> <F>7496 <g>Δʹ</g>

And in <F>5001, it is italic 'c.', not a Greek letter.

I had posted the scan portions for these earlier, and giving it here again for quick access. Vol.3 Balance.pdf

Jonathan may be asked to fill the first two.

<gr> letters

 <gr>a.</gr> -> <gr>α</gr>.  68
 <gr>a</gr> -> <gr>α</gr>  1
 <gr>b.</gr> -> <gr>β</gr>.  72
 141 changes.
 The 2 remaining require a longer Greek text fragment at Footnote 3202 page="2.201"

See commit 6ef13d3

Footnote 5001

Corrected per comment above. : <g></g> -> ²c.

funderburkjim commented 2 years ago

@Andhrabharati In Greek.Translations.boesp-2-corrected.txt, you ask is this {%...%} the marking for italics?

In the version you were working with, yes. This is the way digitizations from Thomas often represent italic text. Similarly, {#...#} represents Sanskrit text (in HK transliteration), and {@...@} represents bold text.

In the current xml version, (step0/boesp.xml), these conventions are replaced by

Jonathan may be asked to fill the first two.

Here are the first two entries-

<D>6075.    <g>Λάγνοιϛ μὲν, οἷμαι, πᾶσι ϰαὶ πεοίδεσιν</g>
        <g>ἡ τῶν ὀχείων μίξεως γνωτή ’ σϑ’ ὁδὸς,</g>
        <g>μύσται δ’ ἒρωτος εἶς τις ἢ παῦροί τινες.</g>
                            {%Moriz Schmidt.%}
                {%Galanos.%}

Also there is a correction in F-6109 (given above), as <F>6109 <g>ςʹ</g>

funderburkjim commented 2 years ago

In Greek.Translations.boesp-2-corrected.txt:

Note: Some small letters are used in script form, like κ (kappa-print) > ϰ (kappa-script); θ (theta-print) > ϑ (theta-script) etc.

This is probably just an informational note.

funderburkjim commented 2 years ago

The greek text in vol3 footnotes added per a prior comment.

funderburkjim commented 2 years ago

The greek text for verses and VN of vols 1-3 added.
See commit 8d6c2ba.

There remain 10 <g> elements yet to be typed: D 6075 , D 7046 (greek text for these provided in comment below) F 2597 , F 2956 , F 3483 , F 3595 , F 4103 , F 4327 , F 4496 , V3 3754 (VN from volume 3)

Will make an issue for @jmigliori or @Andhrabharati to fill in.

Andhrabharati commented 2 years ago

pl. see this https://github.com/funderburkjim/boesp-prep/issues/46#issuecomment-1005393913 @funderburkjim

funderburkjim commented 2 years ago

Add text for D6075 and D7046. And correction to F 6109. Also, changed <gr>x</gr> to <g>x</g>, since only 1 tag for greek text is needed. Similarly changed boesp.dtd.

funderburkjim commented 2 years ago

@Andhrabharati The first word in these two greek texts might need revision:

F 3219  <g>ο᾽θδὲ παρορᾷ τὸ πραϰτέον</g>
D 4014  <g>«Ἰδού, τῇ ὑπερβολῇ ETCETERA<g>
Andhrabharati commented 2 years ago

@funderburkjim

Here are the balance ones from Vol.2, which I already had marked earlier and posted the scan portions, but skipped now (yesterday)!

Vol. 2 Balance

Andhrabharati commented 2 years ago

F-3219: ο᾽θδὲ > οὐδὲ What made you identify this? It had skipped even Jonathan's eye!

D-4014: «Ἰδού is alright, it is a quotation «... ...» in there.

funderburkjim commented 2 years ago

Re F 4103b -- The piece missing is the first instance (4103a): image

Can you provide?

funderburkjim commented 2 years ago

I've typed F4013a as φίλη ψυχή . OK?

funderburkjim commented 2 years ago

The remaining vol2 texts added per Andhrabharati above. @jmigliori -- I think we've handled these remaining cases.

All <g> instances now filled.

I think the insertion of Greek text is completed.
