Cannot hear the person being called #146

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Load Siphon.
2. Dial a call on the virtual keypad or select caller from the Recents or
Contacts list.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Person being called can hear me; however, I cannot hear the person I
called. Handset speaker (not speaker-phone) produces no sound.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1st Gen. iPhone with firmware 2.2.1 (5H11). Siphon 2.0.3-1.

Please provide any additional information below.

Toggling speaker-phone on/off has no effect (still can't hear anything).

Issue seems to occur randomly. Usually re-launching Siphon multiple times
will resolve it.

Issue did not exist with iPhone firmware 2.2 and Siphona 2.0.2.

Siphon installed with Cydia.

Could you try to hold on/off during the call ?

Original comment by samuelv0...@gmail.com on 4 Feb 2009 at 8:17

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Toggling hold has no effect.

The issue seems more likely to occur after an app has used audio (Zephyr, iPod
player, etc.) but this could just as easily be a coincidence.

There is also a dramatic change in the volume of the keypad tones when dialing.
Usually if they sound at (what seems like a) normal volume level, the call will
work
fine. If they sound at an insanely high volume level, then from what I can
tell the
audio from the earpiece will be completely muted/silent. (Possibly a
coincidence as
well, but in my limited testing is seems to work this way.)

I'm using CallCentric and have been doing a ton of test calls using their test
number. Last night I tested about 50 calls and the majority had no volume. I'm
still trying to find out if there's a particular sequence of events that will
re-create the issue but haven't had much luck.

I have the same issue. No audio on my side and poor audio quality on the other
side.
When I make a call with FRING and go back to Siphon the audio is back. Seems to
be a
problem with initializing the earpiece audio device on startup. I have tested
with a
local Asterisk PBX.

i find the same issue happening. I will call and they can hear me fine but i
cannot hear anything they say. (i
called my house phone a 10 times to try this out) I also noticed when I had the
NAT set to on under advance
settings the program would never fully open. it would open then close after 2
seconds (basically while it was
trying to connect) i turned off the NAT and it connects fine. I have the
Edge/3G set to off in case that was
interferring with me hearing the other party and I don't have any settings in
the STUN. i am using sipphone.com
for my service.

Previous version worked great, this one has this same audio problem, but in
addition
to that the person I'm calling says it's completely choppy.

I am having this problem in 2.0.6 as well. 2.0.5 was fine.

I can't hear the person i'm calling. They can hear me but very choppy.

Works fine with NAT disabled. Doesn't seem to matter if its WiFi or EDGE/3G

Iphone OS 2.2.1.

On further investigation, turning off NAT does NOT fix the issue.

I don't know how I managed to get it to work but now after a reboot I cannot
get it
to work again.

Does anyone have the .deb for version 2.0.5? I'd like to downgrade so I can
still use it.

Sorry for all the comments.

I found the deb for siphon 2.0.5. Its here if anyone else needs to downgrade:
http://thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/debs2.0/siphon_2.0.5.deb

Downgrading resolves the problem.

I've pretty much given up on anything after v2.0.2 because subsequent versions
are
unreliable with this issue. It's unfortunate. There are actually a few
different
issues logged here reporting the same thing. I rolled my iPhone back to 2.0.2
around
the beginning of February, and just this weekend rolled my wife's iPhone back to
2.0.2 from 2.0.5.

http://thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/debs2.0/siphon_2.0.2.deb

I used Cydia to remove 2.0.5. I copied the file with SCP (to /tmp). Then
SSH'd into
the iPhone and ran: dpkg -i /tmp/siphon_2.0.2.deb

Once installed I deleted the /tmp/siphon_2.0.2.deb file. Then I ran a program
I got
from Cydia to respring Springboard so Siphon's icon would appear.

I upgraded to 2.06 this morning and since then have had the same issue. Calls
go
through and callers can hear me but the speaker in the iphone does not turn on
so I
can't hear the call progress or answer. I have a 3G Version 2.21. I did
notice
that if I plug in a headset after the call has started - then unplug - that I
can
then hear through the speaker. I just love this product, hope this helps you
get
the issue fixed. Leo

So I remove Voipover3g and everything goes fine. I use wifi instead for now.

I'm having this issue as well. Sometimes the audio disappears then next call it
comes
back.
I'm using an iPod Touch 1G with firmware 2.2.1 and Siphon 2.0.7.
For microphone I'm using a Macally iVoice III and the stock headset for output.

Otherwise, thanks for the great software.

After searching around for a while I was able to find a single comment post on
another site with a solution
that worked for me. The order at which I plug in the microphone and headphones
has been my biggest
decider. Since I unplug both to store them when traveling I always used to plug
the headphones in first
because the first thing I'd do is plug in the dock cable to charge it for when
I need to use it. When I actually
need to use it, only then would I plug in the dock connector. It ends up that
plugging in the headphones first
and then the microphone disables the headphone jack output for me in Siphon. To
fix this, I've been
unplugging anything I have plugged in then plugging in the microphone first,
then the headphones. I can at
least say I've personally had a 100% success rate so far.

*only then would I plug in the microphone.

On a first generation iphone with version 2.2.1 firmware and version 2.0.8 of
siphon, outgoing audio works fine,
I can only hear incoming audio if I use headphones. Plugging/unplugging the
headphones makes no difference,
neither does toggling hold or toggling speakerphone mode

Cheers

Dave

In addition to my previous post, I've found that the fix of plugging in the
microphone first, then the headphones (in that order) doesn't always last
through a
device sleep or reboot. You'll have to unplug them then plug them in again (in
order)
as noted above.

This worked with 2.0.6 and now works will 2.0.8 on my 1st generation iPod Touch
and
firmware 2.2.1. Unfortunately I've only read of using this fix on the 1st
generation
iPod Touch. Sorry.

voice), i have try to plug in the iphone original earphone and mic, it works

I wasn't hearing the phone ring in the ear piece when I was making a call. I
haven't talked to anyone yet. I'm on Siphon version 2.1.0. I use Gizmo and
Google
voice. I fixed the problem by putting the same info from the Settings Account
fields on the Advanced Setting fields.

Under Settings, Advanced settings, "Proxy Server" I used proxy01.sipphone.com
For "Auth. Username" I used my Gizmo number 1747#######
"Reg. Timeout" is 55
"Enable NAT" is Off

Hope this helps

Works great on my 3G, Software Version 2.2. I had the "can't hear" problem
earlier
on my iPhone 3G but it was fixed on a subsequent release, now it works like a
hose.
My Son however has a 2G, which was upgraded to 3.0. He has the "can't hear"
problem
in one direction. When he calls he cannot hear ring or other party but they
can hear
him. I'm out of ideas, do you know of an easy fix for his issue? Many thanks

done

can they be restored from iTunes?

All I can say is that is an extraordinarily easy process, made possible by
simple
applications for both MAC and Windows. You can find both instructions and links
to
said applications at the iclarified.com website.

If his applications are hacked(i.e. Installous), he will need to install
Appsync from
cydia to be able to sync his hacked applications with iTunes. Otherwise if
legit,
they and his settings will be maintained after the jailbreak. It is a very safe
and
transparent process.
