Player Overlay does not start when using a 3rd-party Android Launcher #1092

Got a bit of a weird issue here. I've been experimenting with different Application Launchers since I find the Pixel launcher a bit too bloated for my taste.

However, after switching to the Nova launcher, I noticed that the overlay player would not start after swiping up to go home. This is the default behavior with the Pixel launcher, and if I switch back to the pixel launcher it will start working again.

I switched to the Niagara Launcher today and observed the same behavior, so I'm guessing this is something to do with how the home button action is interpreted.

Phone is a Pixel 8 Pro. Further details can be provided as needed.

Happens for me too, I use Kvaesitso (Pixel 6a GrapheneOS) and it never shows in the launcher, but if I switch to another app from GJ it will show but if I go back to the launcher it doesn't?

I am using the Niagara launcher (Android 13) and the overlay works when switching directly from video to the home screen

Hmmm... Maybe is something specifically about Pixels or Android 14? What phone do you use?

Looks like this got fixed for me on the latest version of GrayJay

Scratch that, it's no longer working. But something strange happened.

After the update, the pop-out player started working after going to the home screen. But after 5-10 minutes while watching a video in the pop-out player, the app crashed and it no longer works.

I'm going to try to replicate the issue so I can grab the debug info
