Group snapshot versions based on major version: 2.X.X-SNAPSHOT
Document the snapshot version implementation in README

I double checked in repository manager and there seems to be metadata present, but artifacts are missing. I assume something must be wrong with our publishing workflow.

I will release the new version of library in the meantime, so you get the latest changes.

The snapshots are fixed now. I'm keeping this issue open for sorting out the documentation part.
