Message not marked as read when replied via quick reply

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Set 'Marked Read' in Additional Settings to OFF.
2. Receive a message
3. Reply via the quick reply option

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The text should be marked as read and shouldnt appear in statusbar. 

The icon in statusbar is still present after replying.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Samsung Galaxy S II - 4.0.3 ICS

Please provide any additional information below.
Using newest firmware version - XWLPD. Notifications in stock messaging are 
disabled.

I'm having issues with this as well.  Unlike the original poster, however, I 
have the "Marked Read" setting ON, and it still refuses to mark quick replied 
texts as read.  If I quick reply to a message, that message is not only not 
marked as read in my SMS app, but it also retains the popup onscreen.
