USB headset not listed as output device in FXSound #109

FxSound does not list my USB headset (Plantronics) as an output device even though it shows up in Windows as a sound output device. Windows won't let me select it even though it is listed. FXSound prevents it. If I uninstall FXSound, then the USB headset works fine in windows. This has been a bug for a long time and needs to be fixed

I'm using Windows 10, Windows 11

Hi, Questions: Just a guess, but does the Plantronics headset have a microphone attached to it? And which version of FxSound are you using? A thread was posted last March reporting difficulties with Bluetooth headsets, and with the microphones in particular: https://forum.fxsound.com/t/hands-free-output-not-showing-up-for-bluetooth-headphones/2866 Apart from that, there's a list of basic troubleshooting suggestions bannered to the top of the forum, https://forum.fxsound.com/t/troubleshooting-if-youre-having-trouble-please-look-here-first/2510

This is a usb attached headset. Plantronics Savi W710 Multi Device Wireless Headset System. The latest Fxsound 1.22 and previous versions have the issue.  the device shows up in windows but fxsound wont let windows select it as a default device unless I exit fxsound. It doesn’t show up in fxsound audio device list.  On Apr 17, 2024, at 9:10 AM, doolhoofd discobol @.***> wrote: Hi, Questions: Just a guess, but does the Plantronics headset have a microphone attached to it? This is an old and pretty niche device. It was created with the main purpose of making phone calls, it definitely has a microphone, it requires installing device-specific software, and apparently only runs on older versions of Windows, up to Windows 8.1 (see page 4 of the manual, linked below). It honestly doesn't amaze me that there seems to be an incompatibility.

The company appears to have been bought by HP, and the support page suggests downloading the HP Lens app to update the product: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/drivers/savi-w710-series/model/2101745906

You can find its manual here: https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-public/pdf_9651227_en-US-1.pdf

Since I didn't know your location, I selected the United States. You can restart a region-specific search by visiting this link, selecting your region, and entering your device name into the search box, https://support.hp.com/us-en/poly?openCLC=true

It used to work fine with DFX. I never had to install any software for Windows 10 or 11. And it works completely fine. So I’m just not gonna use FX sound anymore and solve the problem.I thought I would just report the issue because it does show up in windows and works fine, but FXsound does not recognize itOn Apr 17, 2024, at 10:05 AM, doolhoofd discobol @.***> wrote:

Do you remember one of the previous purple versions ever working with the device? If so, you can find free downloads of all older versions of the purple FxSound on VideoHelp here. As far as I know, nothing was ever changed to the Effects or the EQ, only to the options, so the audio experience should remain the same. When uninstalling v1.1.22.0, I would recommend following the instructions for manual driver removal, which you can find here.

I can’t remember if an FXsound worked before. I know DFX worked. I just did a normal uninstall and it works fine.On Apr 17, 2024, at 12:16 PM, doolhoofd discobol @.***> wrote: Do you remember one of the previous purple versions ever working with the device? The headset looks like a mono device. FxSound does not support mono device. Since processing mono audio is not possible in FxSound, we will release the next version with the change to allow mono device to get listed and selected, even if mono audio is not processed by FxSound.
