No audio v 2.2.0, but does 'connect' #343

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Attempt to make or receive a call
2. Hear the Siphon ringer, see the Diphon timer start indicating a
successful connection, phone on other end also sees this.
3. Fail to hear any audio, or receiving phone hear any microphone output.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Two-way audio is expected. No audio or, apparently, mic output takes
place. I can't even hear the remote phone ringing when making an outgoing
call.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

2.2.0 downloaded from Cydia 10 Dec 09 on iPhone 3GS v3.01

Please provide any additional information below.
I saw that Cydia had some updates. I had passed on their mobile substrate
for a month or two and let it mature. So, today their were udpates for
backgrounder, siphon, and mobile substrate.

I made the mistake of 'upgrading'

Now, Siphon doesn't work at all. Just shows pretty pictures like it is
working. No sound, no mic, but apparently can 'connect' a call. I have
made no changes to my network. I tried to uninstall and reinstall. The
only codecs enabled are uLaw and aLaw. Tried enabling them all.

Is there any way I can download and install the previous (2.1?) version of
Siphon?

Update - disabling NAT in the settings apparently got it working again. This
was
enabled on v2.1.0 and it worked fine. I use it behind a router, of course, and
thought this was the correct setting.

Am I misunderstanding the Network Address Translation function and when it is
apppropriate to use.

Thanks, love your application.

I've had the same experience, but disabling NAT does not solve it for me. 2.2.0
is just silent, with no settings
changes made. I've tried disabling the new G.722 codecs and NAT as mentioned
before, to no avail.

I also use Backgrounder (Siphon is one of the main things I use it for, in
fact). I have disabled the 'Always
Enable' setting in Backgrounder for Siphon now, but that made no difference.
Really a bummer, I'm traveling
and I use Siphon quite a bit.

I'm still on iPhone OS 3.0. Happy to enable debug logging if someone can point
me to where the log goes so I
can send it along :-)

I have the same issue as lifespeed. No audio and no mic after the 2.2 update. It
makes the connection though. NAT is disabled for me. Any suggestions?

Log file is written in /var/mobile/Library/Siphon.
But if you use backgrounder, perhaps you should stop Siphon before to update.
Now, reboot should launch the good app.

That's a good point about assuring that Siphon isn't running in the background
during upgrade -- I'm fairly
certain that it was not running in the background for me when I ran the update.
I have rebooted to no effect, so I
don't think think it's an issue of just having old stuff in memory. I'll try to
get some logging output then.

It would be interesting to know whether or not dannycostin is a Backgrounder
user as well or if some other users
are also having this problem.

I use backgrouder and Siphon 2.2.0 without any problems

I am having the same problem again. I don't know why it has reappeared.
Doesn't
seem to matter if NAT is turned on or off. Connects, but no mic or speaker.
Softphone on the Windows 7 PC works fine connected to the same router as the
iPhone.

I think my VoIP provider is messing with me. They suddenly stopped supporting
the
lovely G722 and G722.1 codecs !! Switch to uLAW and it works fine. Grrr . . .

The Siphon coders went to the trouble to improve the sound quality, and my VoIP
seller stopped accepting it.

same problem here. I have tested it extensively on my asterisk server, and found
sometimes the silence is due to very very slow audio processing, and some sound
may
be passed through to siphon after about a minute delay or so.

Anyone got the old 2.1.0 DEB file. help please.

Samuel,
Same issue here using our internal cisco system.
I'm using 2 jailbroken iphones(3G) with 3.1.2 installed
I'm only having problems with no sound when I call from siphon to siphon.
From/to a
cisco phone I do not have a problem.
Ive set the audio codec to uLaw and disabled NAT (shouldn't matter since its on
the
same network).

Although I want to run with Backgrounder, I have disabled that for now and the
problem still occurs. When I call siphon using another phone with isip the
sound is
working.
I've included a logfile with the incoming call in detailed settings.
Please advise what to do to solve this, a voip phone that cannot receive sound
is
kindof useless.

Update from my end,
Siphon does not play nice with the enterprise version of Cisco Call Manager.
It does work with the express version. When I went to the express version and
took
the G729 codec it worked like a charm.

Hi Eric,

I have had a look at the log file and I think that I have the same issue.
I am reasonably sure of what the issue is.
It relates to whether or not there is SDP present in the initial INVITE.
If SDP is present it will work (speech). If it is not present then you get the
issue
(no speech)
If you could confirm that call case that does work HAS SDP in the INVITE then I
will
know that I am on the right track. Anyway I will continue to investigate.

Steve,
Seems kinda vital to have that working. Any idea who screws up, the
sender/receiver end?
Feel free to email me perhaps we can figure out what is going on together.

I didnt notice this discussion and created Issue 386, it should be merged with
this one.

Hi Guys,

I have tried with 3rc2 and it appears to resolve the issue. Eric are you able
to try and see if it works for you?

I'll try 3rc2 tomorrow and see if that resolves our issue.

Erick,

Please see issue 386 I think that Rukshan has found the "fix"...
I am not sure if Samuel is aware of this "fix" as it really depends if the SDP
is present in the initial incoming
INVITE. At least I was on the right track. I used the windows console
application and this worked (I had speech
when no SDP was present in INVITE for incoming call) and since it and siphon
use the UA-API, my thought
that it was something on the siphon side was correct! That said it is still a
great app!

Anyway let me know how you go!

Steve

Steve,
I think the fixes are from Samuel himself. I just build the binaries and will
test be testing them soon.

Erick,

You are correct. What I was trying to get across was that although Samuel has
written some new audio code, I am not sure that he realises that this issue may
be
fixed.
If you are successsful also, then we can let him know.

Steve

Steve, Looks like it indeed fixes the no audio bug.
Really want to see the changes to the audio backend as well, voice quality is
good on
RC3.
However I did notice a weird bug when you deny a call, siphon crashes :S Filed
BUG 390
