A bunch of enhancements (and selectors) for consideration :)

.vD, .NQ , .G6Lv5D, td.uP, td.ui {background-color: rgba(243, 243, 243, .5);}
/* Menu hover colour */
.CL {display: none;} /* Hide 'manage labels' nav links */
.oLaOvc::-webkit-scrollbar {width: 10px;} /* Slimmer scroll bar */
.Bu {box-shadow: 3px 3px 9px #444; border-radius: 2px;} /* Email shadow &
corner */
.aeJ {padding-right: 8px;} /* Padding space for shadow */
.z0 {opacity: 0.3;} .z0:hover {opacity: 1;} /* Compose opacity, :hover */
.w-as1.nr {opacity: 0.3;} .w-as1.nr:hover, .w-as1.nr:focus {opacity: 1;} /*
search box & focus opacity */
.ash.T-I {opacity: 0.3;} .ash.T-I:hover {opacity: 1;} /* Settings button
opacity, :hover */
[style *= "height: 65px; width: 172px;"] {opacity: 0.3;} [style *= "height:
65px; width: 172px;"]:hover {opacity: 1;} /* Logo opacity, :hover */
.if {margin: 0;} /* email interior space */
.iv {margin-top: -6px} /* Push reply/more top-right box snug into corner */
.aaz .fN {padding: 8px;} /* slimmer Compose page pane padding */
/* .ads {border: 1px solid red; border-radius: 8px 8px;} *//* Single email box
in conv view */
.iY .Bu, .fN {border-radius: 4px;} /* email conv pane & compose pane corners */
.hx .h7 .ac5 .gB, .hx .h7 .acO {padding: 5px 8px;} /* reply section padding */

/*
Logo opacity: 0? or Search box margin-left: 172px;
Keeps search box placement when removing logo
*/

While ME is about subtraction, not addition, personally I dislike the Metro way
gmail/reader have gone (while Youtube has gone the opposite way: 3d buttons
etc) and find these combine make Gmail much more bearable, esp. the corners and
slight shadow.

I don't think I want to add themes a part of the core functionality of the
Gmail module. However you can post this to usestyles.org and anyone with MinE
can install it with one click.
