Sonic Pocket Adventure (USA) - missing varient image? #11

Noticed when using the adapter that no library entry was showing for this USA cart, just booted straight to game from Run Cartridge. Using the tools -> cart signature it reports 0xB6D8067E Is this possibly a different version?

@itsTrifle When you say "no library entry", do you mean that you don't see any game information at all? Or just no image?

Hi - I see no game information at all.
Choosing "Run Cartridge" results in a brief black screen and then the game starts. Sonic then doesn't appear in the Library play history. Other carts I have show a library screen with a "Play" option and do show in the Library after play.

@itsTrifle OK. That definitely sounds like a variant.

That's interesting to see, as no-intro doesn't list any variants for this cart other than a demo & beta version. And, based on the fact that you've got the box, it would seem that this probably isn't either of those.

Unfortunately I doubt I can do anything to provide an image if Analogue doesn't have it in their database, as the cart signature is used to map to a crc32 which is what's then used for the image's filename. So if there's no proper "from lib" entry, there's no mapping. (And I assume they use that mapping for the library entry itself. But that's just a guess. This isn't terribly well documented on their part.)

This is where I once again wish the Pocket did a proper crc32 over the full cartridge rather than whatever they're doing for a signature, as it would be interesting to know what exactly this is.
