Parse error on install of apk #104

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

Please answer the questions about build version and network, will save
developers a lot of time !

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Visit chrometophone download page
2. Download apk file to my Android Incredible (either from device directly or
via browser while USB connected) (27.72KB)
3. See "Parse Error. There is a problem parsing the package)."

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
See "Parse Error. There is a problem parsing the package)."
Would expect that this would install as any normal apk file does.

What version of the android, in Settings -> About phone -> Build number (
ex. FRFxx ) ? If less than FRF50 - see the FAQ.

1.22.605.2 CL161494 release-keys

Is the phone using WiFi or mobile network when problem occurs ? If Wifi,
are you behind a firewall that blocks outgoing connections ?

Yes, using WiFi, no firewall blocking.

Can you open "Gmail" application ? Do you see new messages without hitting
'refresh' ?

Yes, yes.

Can you open "Talk" application ? Do you see incoming chats ?

Yes, yes.

Please provide any additional information below.

I have exactly the same issue. My details:

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Visit chrometophone download page
2. Download apk file to my HTC Incredible
3. When trying to open the download, I get "Parse Error. There is a problem
parsing the package)."

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
See above "Parse Error. There is a problem parsing the package)."

What version of the android, in Settings -> About phone -> Build number?

1.22.605.2 CL161494 release-keys

Is the phone using WiFi or mobile network when problem occurs ? If Wifi,
are you behind a firewall that blocks outgoing connections ?

Reproducible using both WiFi and Mobile Network (separately tested), both after
fresh reboot of phone.

Can you open "Gmail" application ? Do you see new messages without hitting
'refresh' ?

Yes, Yes.

Can you open "Talk" application ? Do you see incoming chats ?

Yes, Yes.

Please provide any additional information below.

Testing was performed on both "only Wifi" and on "only Mobile Network" settings
of the phone. A full android reboot was performed before both tests, and a
(non-Chrometophone) .APK install was performed right after the [failed]
Chrometophone install to verify that app installation was A-OK in general.

Let me know if anything else I can provide/do.

Best,
Rick Tait rickt@rickt.org

I've been doing some further reading on the subject. Apparantly, this
utility is meant for Froyo (Android 2.2) phones. I guess we'll have to
wait until Froyo comes to the Incredible.

This issue is closed. ChromeToPhone requires Android 2.2 (Froyo) and will cause
the parse issue described here on 2.1 and less.
