Zollman network additions #29

Just two A few small commits which could simplify a part of the code a bit. Details are in the commits description. If @AMBorg agrees this can be directly merged into the zollman branch :)

The branch has been further developed in the testprocedures branch which now has it's own off shot: new-main. Therefore this pull request will be closed and a new pull request for merging new-main into the master branch will be opened.
