Students pretty much unanimously find it painful and annoying
I doubt it's unanimous.
There are a number of complaints (see closed issues and read student responses for greater detail).
Then link to them.
Remove git branching tutorial
I disagree. I find it valuable. One of the most vocal haters of this tutorial in cohort 009 really appreciated it by the end.
I could see moving it to make it optional, or assigning it in a different unit. However, before we remove it I'd like to know specific complaints from this cohort.
@berziiii Made a great point that this could be framed better as well. Sometimes learning is difficult. Sometimes struggling is what makes something stick. If people know it will be tough and an appropriate amount of time is set aside, they may complain less.
Another alternative would be doing it as a challenge, or as a part of a lab/guided practice.
Branching complaints. I wasn't using hyperbole when I said near unanimous. The problem seems to stem from the branching tutorial instructions and the way the tool is setup.

Does anyone else have thoughts on this? I'm inclined to leave it in this time, and show the demo of the tutorial during the git-basics
lesson, as that change is tracked over there for exactly this reason.
I'd like to update this with notes on how developers respond in this cohort.
RFC @ga-wdi-boston/core
Those are some really great issues. Thanks for linking @J-Weeks.
I wonder how many people who complain about this actually read the words that are presented. My impressions is that some don't actually examine the screen or try to connect the words with the changing diagrams. That click through and don't get the information that is presented.
Perhaps a demo? I feel like that is too much hand holding. @ga-wdi-boston/core thoughts?
@gaand says we should try #101 first
I agree.
@gaand can I close #101 ?
It's just saying to follow instructions, which isn't a discussion that needs two issues—unless you want me to add content emphasizing that sentiment into the repo. I think the instructions are clear and a verbal reminder would suffice.
