What is the status of Dissenter Browser? #61

It sounds like a great idea looking at the website, however coming here hoping to see how to build it from source, I was greatly disappointed seeing no development for over a year.

I see it's based on Brave which is based on Chromium. Maintaining a Chromium fork obviously involves merging upstream security fixes. This has not been done and therefore this is not a secure browser in any shape or form.

EDIT: I hope this is the right place. Is it Defiant or Dissenter? The release version on the download page matches the version here, so that's why I created the issue here.

It's recommended to use another browser right now. Brave or Firefox. Dissenter is in the process of being rebuilt using Firefox as a base, but it's been delayed by other developments. While there are still links and the website works, we don't encourage the use of Dissenter because we haven't been able to keep it updated. The plan was to launch a new version rather than take the site down, but as time goes by we probably should change the site.

Man, that's so sad. I just made Dissenter run inside Flatpak...

I was quite satisfied with the Chromium/Webkit "backend", also. Maybe you could consider using another simpler project, like surf (https://surf.suckless.org/), that's easier to hack into or LuaKit (https://luakit.github.io/) that is more easily extensible, AFAIK.

But, anyway, I hope the project keep going...
