One gentleman at USENIX LISA 2011 has log files for which he needs to extract patterns using grep. For example, he has a central syslog setup and wants to extract all emails by a given user. Unfortunately, he doesn't know the user ID and o he must write a script to match the from field and then, with the corresponding user ID in hand, gets all emails that match this ID. He is willing to test and advise.
