Hi Nils (@nknapp), I found this repo by chance, as it has been quite a while since updates on handlebars repo and I was wondering what cool things are you up to nowadays.

Let me tell you first that handlebars work you did was of great use for us, big thanks for that. We have moved to vue.js nowadays as we need both client side and server side rendering. It is cool to see that you are using vue.js here and also wanted to say that this sounds like really cool project. There is a gap in the market for a nice media management tool, which you could deploy on your own network without exposing one's private photos to those Cloud services.

I will be watching this space as I need something to manage my family photos and videos. I am sure a lot of other people will be very keen. Wish you success and all the best.

Hi and thanks... I am trying to get this project started for a couple of years now.

I have been diatracted very often, so this is another attempt...

I have the POC of server and frontend running on my own network now, but I'm going to start over clean now.

I'd love to have somebody else on board, especially since I'm more of a backend person. If you'd like to join, let me know.

Interesting that you say so, I was so upset with demise of Picasa and cloud hegemony, that I actually was thinking of doing this myself. My concerns were around server side, as I work more with client. Shall we maybe have a chat on slack/whatsapp/etc. If ok I will email you. I really liked the vision set here, especially the modularity, video normalization and etc.

nknapp commented 6 years ago

We can have a chat if you like. I don't know if I have the flexibility for synchronous communication. I usually don't know exactly, when I will have time in the evening (mostly after 9pm CET). That is my major problem actually. With a daytime job, a family with two kids, some sports and ... some sleep, there is not so much time for developing a lot of software. Sometimes one or two hours in the evening. Sometimes more, sometimes not. Often, this time is not the most productive time of the day...

And most of the time, I start programming when I see the opportunity to do so for a at least an hour. I have no time scheduled for it. I'm telling you this, because I want to give you a realistic image of the my resources. This project might not procced very quickly.

Nevertheless, I'd like to get this started and the fact that there are people like you who have the same problems, adds to this motivation. I can open a slack channel and join in tonight. Might be 9pm. We'll see if we meet...

BTW. I'm thinking about moving this whole project to Gitlab. I have already created a group there...

nknapp commented 6 years ago

I've created a workspace at https://gachou.slack.com/ I'm not sure how you get in there. I can invite you if I have your email. I think the chat should be public though. Not sure if that is possible with slack...

husayt commented 6 years ago

please, add <email-deleted> Gitlab is cool too, the problem is less people would participate if this is something you are after

nknapp commented 6 years ago

I have sent you an invitation and removed your mail-address

Hi @nknapp. Hope you are doing well. Have found this project https://github.com/photoprism/photoprism recently. Seems very similar to what you wanted to build here. They are making good progress, might be a good idea to join efforts.

Thanks, I will have a look.
