...for up to 3 dimensional systems

This PR is NOT prepared for merging, it is just to see progress and test on different machines. Until a full 1.9 release comes out the tests will not run automatically anyway. So far all tests pass on Windows.

Tested successfully on linux with Julia-1.9.0-rc3

(now if only they would get on with a full 1.9 release…)
