configure failure in Ubuntu

What steps will reproduce the problem?

when configuring source

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

error message:
scripts/basic/fixdep.c:432:1: fatal error: opening dependency file 
scripts/basic/.fixdep.d: Permission denied.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

west-chamber-20100405, ubuntu 11.04

I googled and found similar configure error is common in kernel building of 
Ubuntu. Just do not know why. Hope some one would help.

Please check out the lastest svn and update your iptables-dev. I believe the 
current svn build system is updated enough. Please comment if the problem 
persists and this will be reopened.
